Joy

The ground is dusty. The land is parched. The last few plants are struggling to hold on to the final leaves that are ready to drop at the slightest breath of wind. Close your eyes…can you picture it? Do you see it? The desolation? The emptiness? Is there any hope in sight?

Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great “JOY” that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-12 KJV)

Joy—the unsurpassing amazing unspeakable Joy that overflows like water bursting forth from a newly dug well that brings refreshment to the dry parched land surrounding it. As this water overflows, the plants—on the brink of death—drink the life-giving water and slowly they are strengthened to stand tall and bear new fruit.

Joy has come to earth. JESUS, our Saviour, is our life-giving Joy!

Joy is not based on things around us. It is not dependent on what is taking place in our lives. It is the everlasting hope that our sins are washed; that we have been made clean before our Holy God; it is the promise of spending eternity with Him. The Joy of Christmas is not that man has approached God but that God has approached us.

This overflowing unspeakable Joy should be radiating through our lives to those around us just like the water overflowing to saturate a dry and parched land, giving life where there was death.

May this Christmas remind us of this unspeakable joy that brings hope to a world filled with emptiness and that this joy will shine so brightly through us that the world will come to know Jesus, our Joy!
